Projection Designer: Buxtehude Cantata
This Sunday, January 21st, I have the pleasure of running projections I have designed and mapped for a performance of Buxtehude's chamber cantata "Membra Jesu Nostri".
The work is supported by the Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts, Sacred Music Notre Dame, and is conceived by performers Victoria Fraser (soprano) and Gabriela Solis (mezzo-soprano).
I am so excited, as designing for traditionally non-theatrical/staged music is something that is very close to my heart. I believe recital music to be particularly in need of the exploration of media, especially for how one can incorporate history and language - layers of accessibility that help an audience connect at a deeper level with an older work - in this case, one from the baroque period and in a foreign language.
The performance is the first one to be presented in the new 'whitebox' , the LaBar Family performance hall in the O'Neill hall of music, opened to the public this month.
